Changes by Nitin Sawhney feat. Kara Marni

Changes...that's right, so many changes in just one year. I dedicate this post to our newborn son, M. And while there were so many changes on the macro level in the year 2019, I can't believe how many changes have happened on the microcosmic level in just five weeks.

In five weeks, I became a mother.

In five weeks, M. has learned to lift his head, to play on his tummy, to make incredible eye contact and to look at us with one heck of a care bear stare.

In five weeks, Anay became a father...a funny, goofy, loving father.

In five weeks, my body is slowly recovering from childbirth. I can finally start to stand up and sit down with hardly any pain when doing so.

In five weeks, getting four hours of uninterrupted sleep is a small victory...okay, a huge victory.

In five weeks, my heart has made a ton of space for this tiny little human being.

In five weeks, things I used to worry about seem so very far away.

I love this song 'Changes' by Nitin Sawhney, especially because it is a message to a young boy who is starting to find his place in this world.  We made a playlist for the day of the birth and this was one of the songs. If I remember right, it was playing while I was in active labor. When I was around 37 weeks pregnant, M. kicked and kicked while I listened to this song.

These days, I sing 'Changes' to him when he is alert and I swear, he looks deeply into my soul! I mean, he just might be trying to figure out who his momma is, but I want to believe he is listening intently to every single word;)

"The moon, the sky, will be your guide
The stars at night will take you home
Again when the wind blows and the time flows
And the wind blows and the time flows
Then you'll see, the writing through the trees
There you'll see, the changes through the breeze"

When M. was born, my mom commented on how long his fingers were and how similar they were to my fingers when I was a baby. She added, "Maybe he'll be a piano player like you!"

Maybe he will.

I pray music fills his heart and soul.

I hope he finds peace in a lyric.

I dream of the day when a song helps him to transcend.

For now, I'll keep singing these songs to him and watching him change right before my eyes as I sit in wonder.

For now, I'll thank the universe for continuing to show me how my love can evolve and become more unconditional each day.

"Even after all this time
The sun never says to the earth
'You owe me'

Look what happens with a love like that
It lights the whole sky"
