Leaving Soon by Meklit Hadero

Meklit Hadero is this soulful songwriter from the Bay via Ethiopia. She's got a sultry feel that is so authentic. And she's performing in Seattle in a couple of weeks...I can't wait! She has this gentle, but strong nature to her voice and the jazz progressions come out beautifully.

This fall seems rich with a lot of great musicians coming to Seattle. As Kendrick Lamar says, 'Just dive in it...' and that's what I'm gonna do. Immerse myself in more of this music. That's right, I just quoted Kendrick Lamar. I love his music. Ha!

Anyway, back to Meklit. She wrote 'Leaving Soon,' and it's on her album 'On a Day Like This.'

Fleeting love, that's what I think of when I hear this song...the kind that can be so full, but might last only for a few days, a few months. I guess it's a lesson in life. Things change perpetually, and love is no different. Nonetheless, I like the beauty she captures even though it may not last:

"He takes me to the roof
And shows me the moon
Near full tonight
And there we lay
with my guitar and play
Oh lovely"
