To Build a Home by Cinematic Orchestra featuring Patrick Watson
I've been thinking about what home means lately. For many reasons. And how home is not necessarily a fixed location although, I know exactly what 'going home' means for me and what it can do for my soul.
But because of the migratory nature of my immigrant family, my friends, my loved ones...especially in this day and age, home is this feeling that fills the room when we can all be present together. Where we're cooking meals together, spending time with each other, and upholding the beautiful children entering this world. Where there's full on laughter, full on tears, full on love.
There's this warmth that glows in the room, in the space, in those days when we can spend time with each other, however fleeting it may be because of what this life brings us.
And because of that, I love home.
This week's love song is dedicated to the sentiment of this feel, however abstract it may be because damn, when home comes to fruition, it can be an overwhelmingly beautiful thing.
I found 'To Build a Home,' on a whim. The piano and it's upward chord progression, the voice of Patrick Watson, the fluidity of the major chords...it's all blended together in this gorgeously moving piece. The strings add a depth and truth that builds upon the narration:
"This is a place where I don't feel alone
This is a place where I feel at home..."
