Be Good by Gregory Porter
Happy 2014, y'all! And what a year it's about to be...
Gregory Porter is this phenomenal jazz singer with a whole lot of soul. Son of a preacher...woman;) he grew up singing gospel. I came across his music a couple of months ago and just loved his lyrics, his rhythm, and the smoothness of his voice. Apparently, he was a football player before he dove into his music career...yes, another renaissance soul. I love the juxtaposition that I've seen mentioned in a few articles: the teddy bear physique with the very touching, sensitive lyrics.
"Be Good," was the first song I heard from his compilation, 'Liquid Spirit'. A slow waltz, a tender plea, and the video...just a magical, whimsical look at love set amidst the backdrop of Baltimore, Maryland. Check out all the little artistic details in this video that add so much to the feel of the song..the vibrant colors, the murals, the dance moves, the lightness:
"does she know what she does
when she dances around my cage..."
