New York City, this love song is for you! This is from the archives, folks. I wrote Moments when I had just moved from Brooklyn to Seattle. I have these strong, visceral images of the city because I was constantly inundated with stories, different ways of thinking, and yet the constant reminder that we are all looking for similar things in this, here life.

And now I'm thinking, there are so many people who write about their love of cities or their connection to cities, particularly New York:

Alicia Keys and Jay Z: Empire State of Mind
Frank Sinatra: New York, New York
Sara Bareilles: Manhattan
Mos Def: Brooklyn
Duke Ellington: Take the A Train

And this is just a small portion of these NYC love songs. Is there any other city that gets as much written to it? NYC has created the greatest love stories and the most epic of break-up stories.
The small island has got such a mixed population density that poetry is inevitable.
